Cleaning once a month or after a very dirty ride. The whole process should take about 15 to 30 minutes.
Products required
Complete Cleaning Kit
Multi-Purpose Lubricant (optional)
Suspension Lube (optional)
Disc Brake Cleaner (optional)
A sponge or brush and a bucket of clean water.
Here is a quick reminder, start with Drivetrain Wash and Lube - Simply apply the Foaming Chain Cleaner using about 5 to 10ml of product to the chain, cassette and chainrings.
Spray Fenwick's Bike Cleaner over the whole bike. Once you have finished spraying the bike with cleaner, the drivetrain has had time to soak. Then agitate the drivetrain with Chain Cleaning Sponge and Gear Cleaning Brush and then agitate the rest of the bike using a brush or sponge, then rinse thoroughly with clean water.
Discs may need cleaning with Disc Brake Cleaner if they have become contaminated with road grime or oil. Allow bike to dry and then lubricate chain, cable ends and moving parts (not braking surfaces or contact points) using All Conditions Lube, Multi-Purpose Lubricant and Suspension Lube if required.
Maintaining a clean bike will help identify problems in their infancy, as you become more familiar with how parts look and sound. Worn parts, rattles and tyre damage become more obvious and can be dealt with before they become major issues.
This routine has the added advantage of keeping an eye on the whole bike which improves safety and the longevity of the whole bike and makes the whole cycling experience better.
Top tip - You only use a small amount of product.
